May 22, 2023 at 9:37 am

The City has several road projects on the horizon this year, including road and landscaping improvements to northern Monarch Boulevard, design and engineering activities for improvements at the intersection of Happy Canyon Road and Lagae Road, and improvements to neighborhood streets in the northwest portion of the city. The latest information for the various road construction projects can be found on the City's website at CastlePinesCO.gov/Road-Construction.

Monarch Boulevard - Rehabilitation from Winter Berry Drive to the northern city limits

As a part of the continued Road Solutions project work, rehabilitation efforts will begin on Monarch Boulevard this summer. Improvements will include concrete panel repair, joint repair, grinding and smoothing of roads, restriping the existing roadway to accommodate bike lanes, and installation of flashing pedestrian signals at the intersection of Monarch Boulevard and Serena Avenue/Tapadero Way. The project will also improve landscaping along Monarch between Winter Berry Drive and the northern city limits.

Work will begin on Tuesday, May 30, and is expected to be substantially complete in early August, before the beginning of the new school year. Please be mindful of traffic pattern changes and drive slowly through the construction zone.

Crews will also begin utility relocations on Monarch Boulevard between Castle Pines Parkway and Winter Berry Drive. Beginning relocation efforts in 2023 will help expedite the schedule and minimize traffic impacts related to the reconstruction of Monarch Boulevard between Castle Pines Parkway and Winter Berry Drive in 2024.

Happy Canyon Road and Lagae Road intersection improvements

Design and engineering activities will begin for intersection improvements to the Lagae Road and Happy Canyon Road intersection. Project improvements will include a roundabout at the intersection of Lagae Road and Happy Canyon Road to improve safety and traffic efficiency.

This work will be completed as a part of an early action item for the eventual improvements to the I-25 and Happy Canyon Road bridge and interchange. The roundabout will tie into the eventual final construction of the bridge/interchange project. Construction to improve the intersection is expected to be completed by summer 2024.

2023 Pavement Maintenance Program

The City’s Pavement Maintenance Program is a strategic, proactive approach to extending the lifespan of roadways, minimizing the cost of maintaining road surfaces, and prioritizing maintenance and reconstruction projects.

In 2023 work is expected to begin on Aug. 21 and will focus on residential streets in the northwest portion of the city. Improvements will include the replacement of curb and gutter, sidewalk repairs, repair of concrete pavement and asphalt, and more. Resident access is expected to be maintained throughout construction unless notified otherwise.
