Following a comprehensive review of local environmental data, including weather patterns, dangerously low fuel moisture levels, and the availability of state resources, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office has determined that heightened safety measures are immediately necessary. To mitigate the growing risk of severe, fast-moving wildfires and protect public safety, fire restrictions have been officially elevated to Stage 2 for all of unincorporated Douglas County, including Larkspur and Castle Pines.

Compliance with these elevated restrictions is mandatory for all residents and visitors.

What’s Prohibited Under Stage 2 Restrictions:

• Open burning of any kind.
• Use of fireworks, including professional firework displays.
• Use of fires in chimineas, portable fireplaces, or patio fire pits.
• Campfires at developed campgrounds or picnic areas.
• Use of model rockets.

What's Allowed Under Stage 2 Restrictions:

• Fires within liquid-fueled or gas-fueled stoves, grills, fire pits, or other gas/liquid-fueled appliances.
• Residential use of charcoal grill fires, provided the use is actively supervised by a responsible party who is at least 18 years of age.
• Fires contained within fireplaces and wood-burning stoves inside permanent buildings only.
• Fire suppression or fire department training fires.

Penalties:

Violation of these fire restrictions is a Class-2 Petty Offense, punishable by up to a $1,000.00 fine and a $10.00 surcharge.
