I-25 Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge

Overview

A rendering of a potential concept of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over I-25.

An I-25 bicycle and pedestrian bridge was identified as a need for future improvements to the current I-25 and Happy Canyon interchange. A bicycle and pedestrian bridge within city limits will enhance regional trail connections and provide a safer route for users via a dedicated crossing. This connection will provide an alternative transportation route for non-motor vehicle travelers and will also connect existing and future residential and commercial developments on both the western and eastern portions of the Castle Pines.

Project Schedule

City staff is partnering with consultants to design the bridge. Design work will continue through the remainder of 2024.

The construction timeline is currently unknown.

Project Funding

The project is funded by Douglas County, the City of Castle Pines, and state and federal grant funding.

FAQs

Why do we need a new bridge for bicyclists and pedestrians?

The existing I-25 bridges (Castle Pines Parkway and Happy Canyon) are not safe options for bicyclists or pedestrians. A dedicated crossing will create safe passage for non-motor vehicle users and will also create connections between the western and eastern portions of the city.

How will the location be decided?

The design team is analyzing data to determine the most benficialplace to build the connection. Other factors, such as project cost, approval by the Colorado Department of Transportation, and future development locations will also be considered.
