The Castle Pines City Council held a regular meeting on April 8. Meeting highlights include:

• Approving Canyonside Subdivision Filing No. 4.
• Approving an ordinance to allow for the consumption of alcohol in the Castle Pines Community Center Room with a valid permit.
• A presentation for a Best in Colorado Award by the Colorado Asphalt Paving Association for the Happy Canyon Road and Lagae Road roundabout project.

The agenda for the April 10 Planning Commission special meeting is now available. The special meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include a study session to continue the Unified Land Development Code discussion on Use-Specific Standards.

Planning Commission meetings are held as hybrid meetings, with both virtual and in-person attendance options available. Meetings are held at the Castle Pines Library Event Hall (360 Village Square Lane). Register to attend the April 10 meeting virtually.

About the Planning Commission/Board of Adjustment

The City of Castle Pines Planning Commission deliberates and makes recommendations to the City Council on land-use applications, proposed long-range policy planning documents, and zoning regulations. The Commission consists of seven residents from various backgrounds who are appointed by the City Council. The Commission meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Douglas County Library, 360 Village Square Lane in Castle Pines.

The City of Castle Pines Board of Adjustment holds public hearings on variance requests and considers appeals to interpretations made by City staff. The Board of Adjustment is comprised of the same members as the Planning Commission and meets on the same meeting days, as needed.

If you travel on Hess Road between I-25 and Parker, plan for delays while crews repair a bridge beginning Monday, April 14, 2025.

Over 90 days, crews will upgrade portions of the current bridge and repair the pavement where the bridge meets the roadway. During this time, a temporary traffic signal and flaggers will direct alternating single-lane traffic.

Motorists should plan to make a full stop at the signal and wait for the green light before traveling through the work area. Flaggers will be present during the first few weeks to assist drivers. Speeds through the area will be reduced, and delays could be up to 10 minutes.  Alternate routes are available for drivers who prefer not to use the traffic signals.

Previously, Douglas County announced that motorists traveling westbound would not have through access to the Castle Pines Parkway and I-25 interchange during construction. Following feedback from local partners and the community, Douglas County found a solution to keep eastbound and westbound traffic open.

Repairs on a second Hess Road bridge with similar traffic impacts are anticipated in 2026. Stay informed about these projects by signing up for Douglas County’s Cone Zone email notifications.  Learn more about the project on the project website.  For statewide road conditions, visit cotrip.org.

Work/closure hours:

• Active construction will take place Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• The signalized one-lane traffic will remain in place 24/7.

"Slash" is debris from nature, such as tree limbs, prunings, and pine needles. If not removed, slash can increase potential fire hazards on your property. Removing slash and creating defensible space around your home is the first line of defense against wildfires. To help you mitigate wildfire danger on your property, the City of Castle Pines is hosting a free slash collection event. Bring any tree limbs, prunings, pine needles, or other yard debris to Elk Ridge Park's parking lot for free disposal on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. as a part of the City's slash collection event.

If not removed, slash can add to potential fire hazards on your property. Mitigating and preparing your property for wildfire is important. All vegetation is allowed, but please limit the diameter of trunks or limbs to less than 16 inches. No lumber is allowed, and please ensure there is no metal (nails, screws, etc.) or rocks in the materials you drop off.

The Castle Pines City Council held a regular meeting on March 25. Meeting highlights include:

• An update from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
• Approving The Canyons Preliminary Plan No. 3.
• Approving a temporary moratorium on the approval of land use applications and business license applications for body art services, car washes, junk yards, pawnshops, payday loan services, vehicle service uses, and vape shops in all zoning districts of the city.
• Approving a change order with Elite Surface Infrastructure for street reconstruction and pedestrian improvements on Monarch Boulevard.
• Appointing Judge Vincent White as the City's Municipal Judge and approving a professional services agreement.

• Recognition of outgoing Board Member Alex Thomas.
• Election of Parks & Recreation Advisory Board Chair Tiffany Ball.

• A presentation from the City's contractor, Hord Coplan Macht, about a community survey to help finalize playground options for Phase 1 of improvements to Coyote Ridge Park.
• A discussion about potential additional project options for Phase 1 improvements to Coyote Ridge Park.
• Discussion about naming existing public trails throughout the community.
