Douglas County to begin bridge repair project on Hess Road on April 14

April 9, 2025 at 7:36 am

If you travel on Hess Road between I-25 and Parker, plan for delays while crews repair a bridge beginning Monday, April 14, 2025.

Over 90 days, crews will upgrade portions of the current bridge and repair the pavement where the bridge meets the roadway. During this time, a temporary traffic signal and flaggers will direct alternating single-lane traffic.

Motorists should plan to make a full stop at the signal and wait for the green light before traveling through the work area. Flaggers will be present during the first few weeks to assist drivers. Speeds through the area will be reduced, and delays could be up to 10 minutes.  Alternate routes are available for drivers who prefer not to use the traffic signals.

Previously, Douglas County announced that motorists traveling westbound would not have through access to the Castle Pines Parkway and I-25 interchange during construction. Following feedback from local partners and the community, Douglas County found a solution to keep eastbound and westbound traffic open.

Repairs on a second Hess Road bridge with similar traffic impacts are anticipated in 2026. Stay informed about these projects by signing up for Douglas County’s Cone Zone email notifications.  Learn more about the project on the project website.  For statewide road conditions, visit cotrip.org.

Work/closure hours:

  • Active construction will take place Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • The signalized one-lane traffic will remain in place 24/7.

To help you mitigate wildfire danger on your property, the City of Castle Pines is hosting a free slash collection event. Bring any tree limbs, prunings, pine needles, or other yard debris to Elk Ridge Park's parking lot for free disposal on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. as a part of the City's slash collection event.

If not removed, slash can add to potential fire hazards on your property. Mitigating and preparing your property for wildfire is important. All vegetation is allowed, but please limit the diameter of trunks or limbs to less than 16 inches. No lumber is allowed, and please ensure there is no metal (nails, screws, etc.) or rocks in the materials you drop off.

Planning for the future of transportation in Douglas County

January 30, 2025 at 1:11 pm

Are you planning for your future in 2025? Douglas County is too, with connectivity through transportation. Whether you travel solely by car or are looking for a transit option, Douglas County wants to continue improving the way you move throughout the county. There are several opportunities to provide your feedback throughout February. Share your feedback with Douglas County by completing a brief survey.

To learn about the Integrated Transit and Multimodal Study, comment on new potential opportunities and proposed transit options, attend one of these meetings:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Philip S. Miller Building, 100 Third Street; Castle Rock, CO 80104
  • Thursday, Feb. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Highlands Ranch Senior Center, 200 E Highlands Ranch Parkway in Highlands Ranch, CO 80126 (The Senior Center is next to Stop #24966 / Highlands Ranch Parkway & Ridgeglen Way on RTD’s 402L bus line, Westbound.)

The same information will be presented at both meetings, so there is no need to attend both.

The 2050 Transportation Plan will evaluate the existing status of the road network, projections for future demands, and public input to guide investment in transportation improvements. During a series of community meetings, Douglas County will present the latest data about the transportation system and collect public input on how the community would like to see transportation addressed.

Additionally, with the Integrated Transit and Multimodal Study, Douglas County wants to find ways to provide reasonable and reliable transit to people who do not own or have access to their own transportation, who do not own a phone, and/or who have limited personal mobility. In February, an online survey will also be available to share your input.
