2025 City Council Election
Regular City of Castle Pines elections are held in November of each odd-numbered year on the date to coincide with the election date of the Douglas County coordinated election. This year's election will be held on November 4, 2025.

Nomination Petitions
The submission date for Nomination Petitions to run for City Council or Mayor in the 2025 election has passed, and no further petitions will be accepted.
Fair Campaign Practices Act
The Fair Campaign Practices Act requires campaign contribution reports from candidates and candidate committees. HB23-1245 set limits on contributions. Per election, a candidate or candidate committee may accept:
- $400 in aggregate contributions from any one person or political party; and
- $4,000 in aggregate contributions from a Small Donor Committee
Candidates and candidate committees are required to file a report for each reporting period, even if no contributions were received or no expenditures were made.

Register to Vote
Register to vote in person at the Douglas County Elections Office or head to www.govotecolorado.com. You can verify your registration information, register online, or update your current registration with a new address on the state website.
If you register before October 12, 2025 (and have lived in the state since October 7, 2025), Douglas County will mail your ballot to you. If you register after October 12, 2025 (and have lived in the state since October 7, 2025), you must visit a Voter Service and Polling Center to receive a ballot or vote in person.
If you are registered to vote in Castle Pines and you did not receive your ballot or lost your ballot, you will need to visit a Voter Service and Polling Center to receive a ballot or vote in person.

Candidate FAQs
What are the qualifications to run for City Council?
- Must be a registered elector (voter) of the City of Castle Pines in the District they wish to represent
- Must have lived in the City of Castle Pines for at least one year immediately preceding the election
- Must maintain their primary residence in the City of Castle Pines and in the District they wish to represent throughout the term of office
- May not be an employee of the City of Castle Pines during their term of office
- May not hold any other elective position (whether elected or appointed) for a federal, state, county, or municipal governmental entity (including a new charter commission)
What are the qualifications to run for Mayor?
- Must be a registered elector (voter) of the City of Castle Pines
- Must have lived in the City of Castle Pines for at least one year immediately preceding the election
- Must maintain their primary residence in the City of Castle Pines throughout the term of office
- May not be an employee of the City of Castle Pines during their term of office

Do I have to live in Castle Pines to run for City Council?
Yes, you must have lived within Castle Pines City limits for the 12 months prior to the date of the election and your primary residence must be within the district for which you are running.
Do I have to circulate my own petition?
No, you may have someone else circulate a petition on your behalf. After the petition is circulated, you must sign the Acceptance of Nomination Form in the presence of a notary and the petition circulator must also sign the Affidavit of Circulator in the presence of a notary.
Can I take apart my petition and let others help me get signatures?
No, petitions may not be taken apart or staples removed, but you can get more than one petition. Petitions that have had staples removed or appear to be disassembled will not be accepted.
Can I make copies of petitions if I need more than one?
No, you may not make copies of petitions, but you are able to get more than one petition from our office.
Can I have multiple people take the same petition and get signatures?
No, it is strictly one person, one petition. The circulator is responsible for the petition and must sign the Affidavit of Circulator in the presence of a notary.
Can I circulate my petition electronically and get e-signatures?
No, petitions must be circulated in person as there is no option for electronic signatures.
Can someone sign their own name and then the name of someone else?
No, persons may sign their own name only and not sign for anyone else. Registered electors may only sign one petition for a City Council Member position and one petition for the Mayor position.
Can I stand outside of a business in Castle Pines and get signatures?
It is not recommended as you cannot verify that the person lives in your District (or even lives in Castle Pines).
Can someone who doesn't live in my district sign my petition?
Only the signatures of registered electors (voters) that live in your district count towards the minimum 25 signatures needed to become a candidate.
Do I need to get way more than 25 signatures on my petition?
In case of unforeseen issues with signatures, it is recommended you get a few more signatures than 25; however, it is not necessary to get hundreds of signatures.
Can I submit my petition(s) late or get an extension on time?
No, all petitions are due in the City offices by 4:30 p.m. on August 25, 2025. Absolutely no late petitions will be accepted.
