About the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment

The City of Castle Pines Planning Commission deliberates and makes recommendations to the City Council on land-use applications, proposed long-range policy planning documents, and zoning regulations. The Commission consists of seven residents from various backgrounds who are appointed by the City Council. The Commission meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Douglas County Library, 360 Village Square Lane in Castle Pines.

The City of Castle Pines Board of Adjustment holds public hearings on variance requests and considers appeals to interpretations made by City staff. The Board of Adjustment is comprised of the same members as the Planning Commission and meets on the same meeting days, as needed.

The October 16 Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting has been canceled.

About the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

The City of Castle Pines Parks and Recreation Advisory Board makes recommendations to the City Council on different parks and recreation programs, parks and recreation legislative policies, updating the City’s Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan, as well as policies for the acquisition, development, and improvement of recreation, park, and play facilities. The Board consists of five residents from various backgrounds who are appointed by the City Council. The Board meets on the third Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Douglas County Library, 360 Village Square Lane in Castle Pines, or virtually.

September 23 City Council Meeting Wrap-Up

The Castle Pines City Council held a meeting on September 23. Meeting highlights include:

  • A study session about commercial development.
  • An update from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
  • Approving the acceptance of a permanent drainage easement from Shea Canyons, LLC, connected to The Canyons Filing No.3, 4th Amendment.
  • Approving a construction manager services agreement with Kraemer North America, LLC for the I-25 and Happy Canyon Road interchange project.
  • Approving an intergovernmental agreement with Douglas County to accept $600,000 in financial contributions for the construction of the roundabout at Buffalo Trail and Monarch Boulevard.
  • Approving a design concept for a monument feature at the roundabout at Happy Canyon Road and Lagae Road.

Tree Lighting Celebration

Join us for the Tree Lighting Celebration to kick off the Winter Wonderland series of events!

At this event, you will be able to…

  • Meet and greet Santa and his reindeer, take photos, and share your holiday wishes
  • Hop on an enchanting train ride
  • Enjoy carolers and immerse yourself in the joyous sounds of the season
  • Warm up with a delicious cup of hot cocoa
  • Stroll through a magical path lined with sweet surprises and festive decorations
  • Enjoy local talent showcasing seasonal music and dance
  • Bring your friends, family, and neighbors to share in this spirited event! The tree lighting will occur at approximately 6:45 p.m., with a drone light show to follow (weather and conditions permitting).

Please note: Due to limited space dogs are not permitted at the event.

Leaf and Pumpkin Composting

Castle Pines residents are invited to recycle leaves and pumpkins for composting!

First have fun with your leaves- gather them in piles and jump in, use them for Halloween props, etc. - then bring them to be composted.

Pile them in bags and bring them to Elk Ridge Park's parking lot. (You'll dump the leaves out of the bags....no bags will be accepted at the event.)

Leaves are collected and used by local farms as a soil amendment and need to be as clean as possible. No garden waste, large brush, branches, or tree stumps are accepted as part of the leaf collection event (no commercial landscaping).

The event is free to Castle Pines residents!

The agenda for the September 23 City Council meeting is now available. The study session will begin at 5 p.m., and the regular meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

City Council meetings are held as a hybrid meeting, with both virtual and in-person attendance options available. Meetings are held at the Castle Pines Library Event Hall (360 Village Square Lane). Register to attend the meeting virtually.

About City Council Meetings

The regular meetings of the City Council are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Library, 360 Village Square Lane, Event Hall. The public is encouraged to attend and participate in these meetings. Anyone who wants to address the Council may do so during the public comment period at the regular meetings of the City Council.  Public comment is limited to three minutes per person.

Study sessions are held, as needed, at 5:30 p.m. on the first, second, and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Study sessions are informational meetings and differ in several ways from the regular City Council meetings. While the City Council may give direction to City staff, no votes are cast, no formal action is taken, and there is no public comment during the study session.

Parks & Recreation Advisory Board Meeting Wrap-Up for September 18

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board held a meeting on September 18. Meeting highlights include:

  • Recommending approval of improvements to the baseball field at Coyote Ridge Park, including fencing, foul poles, shaded dugouts, players' benches, a new backstop, and making the field a regulation size. City Council will consider the recommendation at a future City Council meeting.
  • A continuation of the trail naming process for public trails in the community.
